Different Face, Same Person (Revisited)

Awhile back I made these 4 pictures by painting 4 different faces, then splicing them all into each other to create 4 new faces. I decided to give the concept another go, only this time starting with 8 faces, with a range of expressions.

To start off, I did 8 quick inkwash/guache sketches, focusing on giving them different expressions while keeping them similar enough so their features would be interchangeable.

The fun begins...I play Frankenstein and swap out eyes, noses and mouths, then I cut out the new faces and trade out the backgrounds.

Next I use some black and white acrylic to define the new faces and features, and I start in with some brighter colors.

At this point Some of the faces started to feel too finished, time to splice again!

Now they're starting to come alive...ALIVE!

And finally, 20 X-acto blades and a roll and a half of tape later...they're done!
