Ghosts
Here ghosts drive a theme of
rebirth, immortality, and
existence on another plain.
They serenely watch the world
fall apart, and continue to exist
without it.
Look back at the “Shift” gallery.
In many ways this is the painted
version of that, only evolved to
include all of civilization in the
dual existence metaphor of the
living vs. mindless drones.
Death and destruction create
the ashes from which the new
world rises.

Perception
More Ethereal Style, only now
the focus is on perception and
our fleeting time in the
universe. Pulled way back on
color in favor of contrasting light
and dark, and finely detailed
drawing.
Some of my favorite pieces are
in this group.

Music
It’s a true escape...putting on
some music and disappearing
into a canvas.
Some of these were painted
“live,” so to speak, with some
friends of mine jamming or
DJing in the room. Good times
guys, we should do more!

nudge...)

Ethereal Paintings
These paintings are about
looking through the flesh,
searching for a deeper meaning
to our existence.
We are more than what we are
made of, but is this “something
more” something separate and
infinite, or is it something that
only exists within the synergy of
our bodies, only to disappear
when we do?
Matter and energy swirl around
in a soup of chaos and nothing,
and here we are.

Random drawings
Every now and then I need a
break from whatever I’m
working on just to do a random
drawing. Sometimes I’ll revisit
an older idea, or sometimes I
just need to get a new one out
of my head.
These are mostly pen or pencil
on paper, with some ink wash
for color.

Early Ethereal
Most of these pictures were part
of the 100 days project, but
since they spawned so much of
my later work, I put them in
their own group.
In several cases these figures
were drawn with one continuous
contour line, occasionally with
my eyes closed. The idea was
to create images that are both
recognizable and amorphous,
similar to seeing visions in the
clouds. In a sense, these
images should offer something
new each time they are viewed.

100 days
This project began as a
brainstorming exercise. I gave
myself the task of creating 100
pictures in 100 days, with the
intention of exploring several
new techniques and subjects.
The pictures here represent the
core of the project. Heavily
spliced images of alternate
dimensions. Mixed media
galore. There is something
enigmatic about a painting that
has been cut up and
reassembled like a broken
puzzle.
I see another 100 days in the
near future...

Shift
The theme here is duality. The
images tell a story of birth,
death, and rebirth into another
state of being, using a phoenix
metaphor.
This series came about when I
was first learning to deal with
the daily transformation from
artist to hourly peon, and back
again...a struggle that any artist
who doesn’t make a living from
their art has to deal with.
These are some of the first
pictures in which I spliced the
paper for aesthetics.

Early Work
Solitude, isolation, deception,
and the fall of mankind are
some early themes in my work,
and you can start to see space
and weightlessness, as well as
the passage of time emerging
as themes as well.
The majority of these pieces are
mixed media on paper, primarily
charcoal and pen, colored with
ink wash and acrylic highlights.
These pictures have a bold but
simple design, most focusing on
only one or two figures in an
empty space.
